Axis to host smart cities technology conference at Expo 2020

As part of its participation in Expo 2020, global security and surveillance provider, Axis Communications will be hosting six high-impact technology conferences from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. Covering topics that range from artificial intelligence for a smarter, safer tomorrow to securing the 5G era, the Axis team will be presenting these dynamic events at the Sweden Pavilion in the event’s Sustainability District in Dubai. Participants can expect to be inspired and engaged as Axis experts discuss key industry trends that are shaping our world and showcase powerful solutions for smarter, safer and more sustainable cities.

The first Axis conference titled ‘Share in the discovery of smart cities’ is taking place on 12 October 2021 and will dive into how the organisation enables cities worldwide to evolve from safe to smart through its innovative cameras, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and surveillance analytics. Axis empowers governments and businesses to understand, manage and enhance three key areas of urban life: public safety, urban mobility and environmental monitoring. These three areas will be the focus of the event and attendees will learn how to transform urban life, ultimately creating better cities to live in.

Ettiene van der Watt, Regional Director – Middle East & Africa at Axisand Marcus Filipsson, Axis Director of Special Marketing Projects, will open the conference. They will be joined by Andrea Sorri, the company’s Segment Development Manager of Smart Cities, who will discuss making cities more liveable, securing their reputation and investing in future-proof solutions. Sorri and prominent guest speakers will also unpack using technology and data to protect residents, ensuring that citizens can move freely and helping cities grow and develop while taking environmental impact into account. Sienna Dzanic, Axis Global Enterprise Marketing Manager, will then touch on the importance of smart buildings and their impact on quality of life and sustainability plans. In closing this impactful event, Andrea Sorri and Tertius Wolfaardt, the company’s Architecture and Engineering Manager, will conclude with a presentation on the camera as a powerful sensor and an ecosystem of opportunities.

“The decisions we make today can either help or hinder our future generations, so we need to be more proactive and strategic in our actions if we are to create better cities to live in and a better future of our planet. With that in mind, we planned our technology conferences to align with likeminded partners and align on government visions to build a smarter, safer world. Axis is proud to be part of the solution and we hope you’ll join us at Expo 2020 to explore opportunities for positive change and growth,” commented van der Watt.

Airbus strengthens communications with GCC nations

The Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai to boost cross-border security coordination and communication between GCC nations, starting with a first “proof of concept” implementation between two of the members.

The proof of concept (PoC) agreement, signed on 3 October at the Expo, will allow Airbus to test the interconnection of Public Safety Critical networks on and between the territories of two Gulf nations. The MoU was signed by Maj. Gen. Hazaa Ben Mbarek El Hajri, Assistant Secretary of Security Affairs, Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Selim Bouri, Head of Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific for Secure Land Communications at Airbus.

“We will use the Inter-System Interface to connect the two Critical Communication networks and pave the way for better, faster and more effective collaboration between border security forces from the GCC nations. We will leverage the modern features of our Tetra systems to strengthen cross-border communication between Public Safety agencies, which is crucial at a time when we are facing numerous border security challenges,” said Selim Bouri, Head of Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific for Secure Land Communications at Airbus. “Under our POC agreement, our team of experts will test the key technical and operational aspects of this endeavour while deploying the highest levels of availability, privacy and security that we provide. We welcome our partnership with the Secretariat General of the GCC and we thank them for their trust in our technology.”

“Airbus is working towards supporting the digital transformation objectives of the GCC and is developing a detailed strategy to best address all mission- and business-critical requirements of GCC markets. For that, the company is building secure and seamless communication and collaboration networks,” Bouri added.
